While the world is excited to see the upcoming film Fifty Shades of Grey Melanie Griffin, the film’s star Dakota Johnson’s mother, does not share the same excitement.
Griffith made an appearance at Clive Davis‘s annual pre-Grammy gala at the Beverly Hilton, on Saturday (Feb. 7). She told reporters that it would be too awkward if she saw the film.
“She would be very uncomfortable if I saw it, and I would be very uncomfortable if I saw it,” Griffith said. “So we would never be able to talk about it, so why would I see it?”
Johnson’s role is very racy, but Griffith was still happy for her daughter’s new job. “I was so happy for her when she called me,” Griffith says, though it seems she would have preferred her daughter as the lead in a slightly less racy franchise, “She said, ‘Well, I just got Fifty Shades of Grey!’ I was like, ‘Oh. My God!'”
Some may wonder why a mom wouldn’t support their child’s new film, but Griffiths reasoning for not seeing the film on its February 13th release makes sense. “Would you want to see your child having sex like that? Just regular sex, I couldn’t even do that, but the ‘room of pain’ sex? I definitely couldn’t do that!”
Even Johnson is a little skeptical about letting her parents see the film. She told USA Today that her parents are “maybe” allowed to see the film.
